Why it works
We blend physical activity and chess-style decision making. Kids learn to control their bodies, slow down their reactions, think ahead, and believe in themselves.
- After even a single short burst of physical activity, kids show sharper attention, better working memory, and stronger self-control for up to about two hours. Exercise activates areas in the brain that handle focus and decision-making.
- Movement boosts mood right away: less stress, less irritability, more positive energy, and better emotional self-regulation in children.
- Over time, regular physical activity strengthens “executive function,” which includes planning ahead, problem solving, impulse control, and flexible thinking — skills that help in school, sports, and daily life.
- We come to you in Middle Tennessee. Parents are always welcome to watch.
- No experience required. We start simple and build up at their pace.

Hi, I’m Adam — coach and founder of Checkmate Fitness. I’ve loved chess and physical training since I was young, and now I use that experience to help the next generation grow stronger and more confident.
As a father of six, I know firsthand how meaningful it is to watch kids pick up new skills, learn self-control, and believe in themselves. My goal is simple: make learning fun, build real confidence, and help kids develop habits that last.
I’m certified in Basic Life Support (BLS – CPR & AED) and hold both Personal Trainer and Youth Fitness certifications through ISSA, so your child’s sessions are safe, age-appropriate, and well planned.
